Corie Brown, Children’s Choir and Youth Choir Conductor & Academy Director
Choir conductor and contra alto Corie Brown recently moved to Eugene from Colombia, South America. Originally from Michigan, Corie most recently worked in the choral formation of a national music program “Fundación Batuta” in Colombia, which is based on Venezuela’s systematic form of music education. While in Colombia, Corie also taught choir in the Fundación Musica en los Templos in Bogotá. As a music educator, she has directed choirs in public schools in Chicago and Michigan, worked at Interlochen Arts Camp, and been artistic director for the Arcadia Children’s Chorus among other positions. Her performance experience is equally diverse ranging from appearing with the award winning Chicago Chorale to the female Colombian vocal ensemble Cantoría Cuarto Menguante to international choral tours throughout Europe, Argentina, Colombia and the United States. Corie holds her BM in Music Education from Alma College where she studied under Dr. Will Nichols. She working on her MM in choral conducting at the University of Oregon with Dr. Sharon Paul and she is the director of the United Music Academy at United Lutheran Church in Eugene, Oregon. Santiago Valderrama, Music for Preschoolers Instructor
Music educator and drummer Santiago Valderrama holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood music education from the Universidad Pedagogica Nacional of Colombia. Santiago brings over eight years of experience teaching preschool and elementary music in Bogotá at San Diego International School and the internationally renowned Marymount School. While encouraging language development early on through bi-lingual instruction, Santiago incorporates music methods such as Kodaly, Education Through Music (ETM), Orff, and Willems. Other than working with youngsters, Santiago is considering a master’s in music pedagogy in the States.
